The Chicken Or The Egg?: The Dr. Ivo Robotnik Story
The leader of the Eggman Empire (currently a small basement underneath a Chinese Laundry), Dr. Ivo Robotnik alias Dr. Eggman is the big bad – or rather was. It seems after the revelations about his grandfather at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 has led the good doctor to become, er, good.
That’s not to say he’s opposed to a little global conquest occasionally but the few times he’s been seen he wasn’t actually trying to kill Sonic, his big (and respected) rival but actually going out of his way to help him – or make Eggman Land a reality once and for all. You know you have to wonder why they don’t just give him some land in the Sahara or something and let him build Eggman Land there, he could make the desert bountiful and he probably wouldn’t bother anyone again. But hey, what do I know?
He may look like – with his stripy jacket – some really odd Dukes of Hazard fan but the man with the ‘tash – now so bad it looks like he’s had two tortoiseshell cats glued to his nose – is a mechanical genius.
From the beginning he has been the arch nemesis of Sonic The Hedgehog, though now with his creation Metal Sonic running amok and taking over the world Eggman launched into action and with the aid of Rouge and the Chaotix located Sonic, Shadow and co just in the nick of time to whisk them away from a terrible fate.
Eggman it seems is more careful than many would credit him, having foreseen a time when one of his creations might seriously endanger the planet (against his will) he created the shadow organisation Wescin Rocks which now is the base of the rebellion against the Robot Legion, Metal Sonic and his despicable lieutenants.
Would be megalomaniac, feminist, romanticist and certifiable nutcase, Eggman had been trying to walk the straight and narrow with his own Psychiatrists business and investigating ways to calm his inner being. Or focus his inner egg you might say. Alas it has not worked and now a great many of his finest creations have turned their metal backs on him he is though he would never admit it openly somewhat frightened and alone.
He is coming to rely on Sonic’s existence to justify his own, which makes his blood boil and behind closed doors has led to several bouts of severe anger.
Feminist, romanticist, would-be megalomaniac, certifiable nutcase and lover of déjà vu – Eggman goes to prove if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and if it is broke throw enough glue at it until it can no longer move. Despite all this though many mysteries are yet to be reveaked about the Doctor – who was his mother and father, just how did he become so bad – was it through the aguished loss of his parents father turning the young Ivo bad with his poisonous doctrine? Come to think of it just how old is he – if Eggman Nega is a relative in the future where has this relative come from. Is there a Lady Robotnik somewhere we no nothing about?
And just what would happen if he met Billy Hatcher?
No… wait, perhaps we don’t want to know.
In any case with Eggman’s psyche battered and bruised, how long can it be before the Doctor completely loses his way – and becomes more dangerous than ever.
