Sonic The Fighters SONIC THE FIGHTERS / SONIC CHAMPIONSHIP (1996)

It’s amazing what can happen through almost accident, the addition of Sonic & Tails to Fighting Vipers as an in-studio hobbie project resulted in this full on 3D fighter with madcap stylings and just a touch of the Looney Tunes about it. It also introduced the deadly serious Bark The Polar Bear (or Polarbear apparently) and Bean The Dynamite.

The world is in peril from Dr. Eggman, there’s a rocket to take the would-be savior into space to whoop his bumptious behind, but there’s only room for one and it requires chaos emeralds a plenty. Now the sensible thng would be for everybody to pool their resources and just send Sonic but unfortunately everyone instead decides to squabble over who gets the right to be a hero. Its quite sad actually.
