The Sonic Wrecks mailbag is often beset by people who ask the same old questions, be it 'is Dreadknux REALLY an eight foot tall Viking' to 'do you want some Viagra' all of which are skillfully dealt with by ArchangelUK by competely ignoring them. In order for you to not fall into this trap, SW has compiled a list of the most frequent questions mailed in and the answer for them.
- Are you ArchangelUK of Sonic Wrecks? or Are you the owner/writer/creator/webmaster of Sonic Wrecks?
Yes.
- Will Espio ever appear in the comics?
No.
- Why is Espio not in the comics?
Espio, regretfully does not want to appear in the comics. He does not want to 'perform' in front of an audience in that way, he appears on Radio Redux/Chaotix X due to a injunciton acquired by Sonic Wrecks Productions which has forced Espio to pay a performance bond (fee undisclosed) to ensure he makes advertised appearances. The majority of trouble has since disappeared, with Espio happy with his radio career and freedom to pursue 'outside interests'. The original problem stemmed from Espio desiring a better contract including rights from future t-shirt sales and also backstage politiking to gain more of a starring role on the site.
- Why is the comic called Sonic Wrecks?
The name is a pun or 'play on words' derived from the name of the cartoon series "Sonic X", X rhyming with wrecks and on another level the name is saying that 'everything was a mess' which when you bare in mind the relationships of the characters involved is somewhat appropriate. To further expand on this, there were plans in the early days of the site to have an 'audio logo' featuring the end of the American theme tune of Sonic X. The lyrics "Gotta go fast... gotta go fast... gotta go faster. Faster. Faster. Faster. Faster. Sonic X." replaced with "It's a disast... it's a disast... it's a disaster-saster. Saster. Saster. Saster. Saster - Sonic Wrecks."
- Why did you start Sonic Wrecks?
By chance I stumbled across the results of the 2004 Sonic Site Awards whilst at university, and was so utterly disappointed by the quality of writing and design from the nominees I uttered the dreaded line - "I could do so much better than that." So I decided to put my money (and effort) where my mouth was and made it my goal to win the SSA Sprite Comic award which was achieved in 2005.
- I see a pi sign? What does it mean?
A pi sign is reference to the Sandra Bullock film 'The Net' and is a symbol used several times in the history of SW to
denote a secret or some kind of hidden content. The first Sonic Wrecks secret led to a teaser background for Radio Redux and was found in the bottom right hand corner of the old Awards Recieved page. The second more substancial hunt resulted 3 months later in the discovery of the pi sign in the 'Vote For Us' section on the archive page for Comic #014: 'Badly Drawn Hedgehog' which led to the main page of the 4.0 Beta Sonic Wrecks site.
- Why does Angelus have a dual scar across his right eye?
Angelus was invovled in a long brutal fight with his brother Gennai after the aforementioned man 'killed' his lover, Alzari's sister Sora. The death was unintentional as Gennai had been aiming for Angelus, Angelus shocked by the death and overcome by fury became so lost in his thirst for vengence he lost the restraint of the human half of his demi-god self and became 'Gatekeeper' a living embodyment of divine retribution - the only time this has happened - though Angelus came close when Metal Sonic severely injured Frost.
After a long fight, which succeeded in destroying most of the Temple of the Dragon, Angelus managed to reign in this feral godly persona but during the resultant confusion got stabbed in the side and slashed across the face with dual bladed dagger - a divine weapon, the only sort capable of injuring Angelus. He was victorious, however the wound scarred leaving him with the parralel marks that he sports even in his Sonicverse echidna form.
- What is a Wreckslet/Special?
A wreckslet is a small comic, one frame in fact often used to fill in for time or produced to mark some kind of occasion. Wreckslets can either be 'in storyline' or 'out of storyline'. A special comic meanwhile is a one off comic often used for important points in the comic's plot or alternatively holiday comics. You can tell it's a SW Special as the Shadow head logo becomes 'Super Shadow'.
- Where do the Redux characters come from?
Redux started life as 'Reality Redux' a fanfiction story still on fanfiction.net about two guys sucked into a cartoon world (Digimon) and who basically find out that their life is a lie and the cartoon world has become 'dependant' on the real one, can influence it and vice-versa. Ben becomes 'Alzari' the leader of his people the 'Travelers' whilst Angelus is revealed to be the 'Gatekeeper' a demigod and warrior of the forces of Light who is destined to spend eternity freeing all worlds of their burdens. Angelus and Alzari's paths are not happy ones, especially for Angelus who is forced into his destiny while Alzari just accepts it, Angelus eventually uses his power to tear apart the 'system' controlling their destinies the so called 'Redux Loop' which leaves their fates now in flux. The story also tells the meetings of Alzari and his dragon companion Raine as well as Angelus and his companion Frost. More details can be found on the relevent cast pages and also the Redux Histories pages.
- Can you help me with my sprite, sprite comic or sprites in general?
Well, I'm not really the best person to ask. If you want help with this area of expertise the best place to go is the Sonic Spriters Network and look at the tutorials and various help files there.
- What do you use to do the comics/website?
Adobe Photoshop, version 7.0 at the moment for the images and the comics while the site is done in Dreamweaver 8.
- Will you put my character into the comic? / Can I send you a comic?
No.
- [Long series of unsolicited emails about helping out with the comics, taking over the site and referring to SW as a result of 'our efforts']
F*** off. You're a psycho who probably has no friends.
- How do you go about making the comics?
Well, firstly I actually seem to come up with a title as opposed to a concept which is usually some ghastly pun or play on words or take on of a film/book/television title which you may have noticed. After which I trawl through any complaints/comments I got about the previous one and try to come up with a rough script which gets put onto the image as text layers in the relevant frames. The general frameset remains the same and I work from the previous comic's settings thus incorporating any tweaks I made into future versions. After which its just a question of getting everything laid out which takes the longest time period.
With regeards to the overal 'goals' of plot comics and the overarching storyline of Sonic Wrecks, there is a series of checkpoints already laid down that the comics aim towards. Example of this would be introducting all the characters and then getting them to all meet - thus they all would concievably recognise each other.
