Remixes are being done using two source tunes from across twenty years of Sonic with the two then being faced off under vote to select the winner. Remixes are being done within a week as well, so pretty impressive stuff!

The first round of the Sonic bracket is already under voting conditions and features tracks by remix artists such as Rexy and DusK going head-to-head. The first track, a mix of Tidal Tempest and Star Light Zone even features a contribution by SEGA community member and NiGHTS officianardo DiGi Valentine.

Voting will culminate on round one this Saturday, whilst work on the second bracket (Robotnik) has commenced with the mixing. This bracket contains other familiar faces including halc and Sir_Nuts, who will be the most versatile mixer?

Guys I need your help for this idea! I want to do something really nice in my NiGHTS comic using a montage of photographs. I wont say what exactly yet (don’t want to ruin it) but if you want to help listen up:

I NEED – 1 Photograph of you (or a group of you) that sums up your love for NiGHTS/the community/the games/the fandom/etc. This can be you holding a copy of the game, huggin a Saturn, Holding a poster, wearing cosplay, juggling plushies, drawing a picture, I dunno, make it nice and personal and relevant to NiGHTS for yourself. It doesn’t have to be deathly serious, just make it sum up your perspective.

Techy stuff – Please make the photo size as big as possible so it wont get all blurry if i have to make it bigger/smaller to fit the artwork I’ll be doing. Send them as JPG’s, Tiffs, PNG or BMPS (anything that is non program specific).

Email them to me at admin@nightsintodreams.com label emails as ‘MONTAGE PHOTO’. You can either attach the files or send me a link in the emails. I’ll send you a reply when I’ve saved your photo to my pc.

You have about a week to get back to me on this – so get digging for your favourite photo or take some new ones and send them my way.

Go Go Gadget cameras!

Bizarrely entitled “The Obsequious Heterophobia of Dr. Melefam Buttfink”, the track is a remix of Splash Hill Zone takes an early 80′s electronica feel to the music, DJ Pretzel in his summary name checks The New Order which I’d agree with. Remixer Meteo Xavier, who also got fellow remixer bLiNd to assist comments also mentions them.

“As usual, I had strict possibly idiosyncratic artistic ideas and goals for how I wanted to do it. This time, I wanted to use this track, which I claimed I would remix someday anyway when it was first leaked, as a means to pay tribute to the earliest music I can remember moving me – which is super robotic sequenced 80′s late 90′s super happy and super cheesy electronic music. This time my goal was not to shy away from my remix weaknesses: mechanized sequencing, repetitive drums, overproduction, etc. but dive right into it and build on them into a unique track. All the repetitiveness, and cheesy guitar samples and all that is intentional. I wanted a track that sounded more conventional and played with the main melodies (see below) much more than my previous mixes and really really interpret and work with them. I cite Erasure, “Waiting for a Star to Fall” by Boy Meets Girl, “Vivid” by Hiroki Kikuta, Pretty Hate Machine by NIN, and “Blue Monday” by New Order as my main sources for this track, among others.”

Personally I’d say it sounds a bit Jean Michel Jarre actually at a lot of points. There are some minor flaws still in this mix, but its still highly enjoyable – give it a listen.

You may recall it was an incentivisation scheme cooked up by SEGA for Episode I whereby those who bought more than one copy of the game would receive a special shout out in a community team made video. At as short a notice as you can get being on launch day, SEGA have announced it will be returning for Episode II.

Purchase of more than one copy of the game (with proof, naturally) will get you on the video whilst merchandise is being offered on this occasion – a signed artwork piece – if you are insane enough to purchase all four of the available platform types.

If you have a lot of disposable income and want to take part you have until June 15th. It is open to Europe as well as America, although SEGA notes that “the mini-poster is still signed by the team at SEGA of America”.

Summer of Sonic staff confirmed shortly afterwards that the sale had been legitimate, I’ve just been informed by the tech team that it wasn’t even three minutes, with tickets opening  at 12:30:00, the final registration of the set closed the  proceedings a mere two minutes thirty-four seconds later.

A humongous, if slightly awkward success for the organisers with many fans subsequently missing out, including many fans well known to the community, by the time they heard the announcement the door had already been slammed closed on their chances in the first wave. Those that got tickets were left to thank their lucky stars, whilst those who did not were left shocked, astonished and for a good few quite angry. Subsequently taking to social media to vent their spleen on both Twitter and the Summer of Sonic Facebook page.

The mixed fortunes and emotions of the group seemed encapsulated here:

“Complete joke! I’m a touch typist – completed the form in around 40 seconds after it was up! Rip OFF! Waste of a day!”

“SUMMER OF SONIC TICKETS… G E T!!!!”

” I filled out the form in the first 60 seconds and still didn’t get a ticket!!! This is harder than getting a ticket to the Olympic Games!!! “

” I got my ticket with one friend, and registered my friend too… I still got that done in 3 minutes. It WAS possible guys.”

“Sonic The Hedgehog wouldn’t be fast enough to get tickets”

“FREAKING YES! AHhhhh! Summer of sonic 2012 here I come xD Woop woop”

There is of course no need for chocolate and tears JUST yet. There are more tickets to come with an announcement next week as to exactly when the second wave will be, but for those with travel already arranged who don’t possess tickets it will ceratinly be a nervous wait.
