Sonic Stadium Up... |
After a period of intense worry and the possibility of the loss of at least a months work, forum and site updates Sonic Stadium has returned and things have been put in place that will enable the site to operate without any further serious downtime.
The "Merch List" has been added to the Sonic Wrecks section of the navigation on the left there. It's been updated with some new items.
Sonic X #35 StH #191, #193(x2) Sonic 10th Anniversary Soundtrack Sonic Heroes - Pocket Prima Guide Sonic 06 - Prima Guide
Eventually I'll be linking to photos of all of these items (except the comics obviously) - there'll be more. |

Sonic Stadium Down |
Sonic Stadium & The SSMB are down, the server has seemingly fallen over and its being investgated as to the cause. The severity is yet to be established.
Sonic Wrecks will be giving you updates on the situation as we hear it from Mr Dreadknux. Not a good start for TSS to 2009 though :( If you cannot get your Sonic forum fix there's always E-On- SW returns to #1 status again! |

304: Ladies & Gentlemen... Radio Redux LiVE |
And the second update of the day! Of course if this was TSS we'd now have a story which took the completed opposite of the previous story.
I DON'T WANT ELECTRO GYPSY! (Yeah... that'll do.)
This is the first episode to be "renumbered" and was originally LiVE #101. It's up on iTunes & Podcatching clients, RRPlay and the archive, show notes and RSS have all been updated.
Edit: Actually TSS has gone down again it seems, the phrase "fidders elbow" comes to mind. Ladies and gents, your NEW number one Sonic website: Sonic Wrecks!!! |

State Of The Website Address: MAJOR SW 2009/Future News |
Welcome to 2009! The Sonic Wrecks skin default has been switched back to SW Classic and there are major changes afoot that I'd like to address in my annual State of The Website address - I've actually done these the past two years if you've been paying attention. I'm very much aware as I slowly inch my way up the totem pole and come into contact with more and more senior Sonic/SEGA peeps that my role in SW may have to end or I'll have to take a "less prominent" role lets say as it may end up being a bit of a conflict of interest. I'm kinda tollerated atm, because I'm not that well known and kinda kept at arms length from Japan - I would scare them franky - but if things like my reports back to Sonic Team (I fed back on Unleashed in a major way both personally and your general feelings and it was definately looked at and noted by the team) are successful I'm gonna get more and more shall we say 'noticed'. This may not happen for several years yet, with any luck and contrary to some fears, and going against the trend of the community to shrink and congregate more around TSSMB. Combined with the seeming short lifespan of new smaller and even mid-range Sonic websites Wrecks isn't going to die anytime soon. SW will still be waving a fist at TSS's ankles until such times as we get repetative strain injury or they develop a slight limp. Still, with the success of Summer of Sonic and I continue to have an impact at SEGA on your behalf (SOJ thinking up community stuff on their own without prompting anyone?) it'd be damn foolish of me not to think "yeah, clock is probably ticking here." So I'm in the process of making a new much more advanced SW, not as advanced as I'd LIKE it to be, as I'm no B'Man, not time to learn to B'Man levels and I have no equivilent of B'Man to call on. But needless to say its much beyond this what you see here on a graphical level. I want it done so updating will be easier and things are more uniform and organised, and dare I say under my breath maybe... a little more professional looking. If its all done then I'll be able to leave the site to someone if/when I have to... at the moment, so long as they don't kill each other that'll be Echo Hawk (so I'll still be able to call the shots behind the scenes, heh heh!). Renovations for this have begun in earnest. All Radio Redux shows (the actual recordings) are being moved to a new home away from libsyn, that's right they're being moved to the SW server as I have enough bandwidth and space. Series 3, comprising both the recorded and LiVE shows is also being combined into just "Series 3" so there will be renumbering of shows going on. These changes are part of a whole swathe of changes to your favourite repository of all things Sonic happening right now for 2009. I'm currently in the process of reformatting the masters of all the old Season 1 shows into a better format, with unified tags and that will allow them to be playable on RRPlay. Speaking of, you will now note RRPlay and the RR Archive only currently show episode #301. The Radio Redux RSS will ALSO only show #301 as this is getting an overhaul too. I'll be adding shows to this on a daily basis until we're up to speed again. It's been updated with the Radio Redux Season 4 artwork already (its been added as a download in the RR Media section too) - you can check it out below. I'm starting with the series 3 shows #301 to what will be now #321, after which I'll work backwards from #301, so it'll be #215 to #201, then #115 - #101. As I've said these will all be tagged up in a uniform way. Also ready to go are the four Radio Redux Guest Control shows, these will be added in when appropriate. Please note, the comics will ALSO be getting a renumbering - which is pretty major I'd say, and the concept of Wreckslets and Specials will bite the dust. You'll find the old headers like "Retro" and "Deadicated Follower Of Fashion" and "Dogfight" will become bone-fide comics. These are pretty major changes, so major I'd imagine many of you will balk at the amount of work I'll be doing. But it needs doing. Yeah, I know, I seem to be saying that a lot. There is a Version 6 of Sonic Wrecks currently under development which I hope will see the light of day in February. There will be updates in the meantime perhaps daily, its about time the community took a bit more notice of SW so it's gonna MAKE you take notice. PS: It's not going to be sodding Wordpress. |

Amazon Sonic Deals: Sonic Chronicles Guide Book |
HAPPY NEW YEAR! This is the sort of thing our good friends at TSS(+ or -)Z normally talk about, but Amazon have a very good deal going on the Prima Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood game guides. You remember Sonic Chronicles? That's the game that's Slingerland current most regular topic as to how everything is terrible and the world is doomed and you are all fools for being Sonic fans or something. Anyway if you fancy a good deal Amazon have got the guide, complete with extra plot details, character info and how to find Froggy and the F'n Echidna Pirates (BEST. IDEA. EVARRR.) It's available now brand new for £6.50! Fancy a punt on this bargain then here: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Official Game Guide: Prima's Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) If you buy via the link I get 10p or something so all good stuff :) PS: Apparently I'm "a worthy hobby" - aren't fiancees nice kids? :( |

Never Mind The Mobian Measels |
Last night a terrible plague was unleashed upon the Entherial Online forum, as the dreaded Weegee effectively took over. Members flooded the board (yes they actually did) as they tracked the progression of the Weegees as they marched across the board infecting the forum skin and altering names, signatures and most commonly people's avatars - attempts to subvert this have been met with only worse infection!
As of this moment Entherial Online seems to have become Weegeerial Online. Where will this infection lead? The rapid take over of the Weegee put older forum members in mind of the Red Weed virus that lead to the destruction of the old SW and the ascent of Metal Sonic to power within the comic.
Where will it end?! |

Blake Draco is trying to play World of Warcraft.
He is as of this moment cconsidered a traitor. A cross of red has been painted on his door and all those of you out there who know Blake should avoid him for he has clearly become plague-ridden.
EH Edit: The whole forum must be purged. Or I'll just not bother with it again. Woopsie. AAUK: Since when have you been able to edit my posts? And what WILL we do without your mass of activity??? :P |

December The 27th My Dear, December The 27th... |
Hey hey everybody, hope you had a fantastic Christmas and are looking forward to a good new year. I've eaten far too much turkey, bleeeeeh, but I'm back now following a few days of relaxing at the family home and generallly being loved.
I'll be hitting you up with the Wrecks Factor entries to, lol, download soon and I'll also be starting my Christmas content project which will see some developments and some holes on the site filled.
Oh yes whilst my eye was off the ball it seems I and everyone at SEGA got a VERY special Christmas message from Slingerland: "To SEGA... F*** you." Now that's called being 'classy' children. |

Sonic Team + AAUK = Win? |
Edit: Endless Possibility Full Version up in Depository.
I was very pleased to find out today my incredibly long feedback to Sonic Team regarding Sonic Unleashed was gone through in Japan by Hashimoto-san and the team step-by-step and they took a fair amount of time discussing all the points I raised about Unleashed and the series in general. WOO! Good news huh?
Well how about this, my feedback was in two parts.
Yup there was a general report from me about the way things were and then I also set out how YOU guys feel. Now admittedly Sonic fans are about as uniform in what they want as an army wearing tie-dye shirts but I set out what you think of Unleashed, both good and bad and I also took the liberty of you know, mentioning where you'd like the series to go - and not to in regard to all the niggles you've seen over the past few main games etc.
I went into some pretty serious depth, but I'm told reaction to my comments was positive and they were certainly taken on board.
You can thank me later if things start going more in the direction you want - I knew I was here for some reason. :) |

Filler, Thanks and WRECKS FACTOR UPDATE OF IMPORTANT NON-FAIL! |
Whilst the cats were away the mice did play it seems, as Urtheart's filler show turned into an actual Radio Redux broadcast. Anyway its so good, and the interplay between my own "reverb crew" - that's an old skool Kingdom of Loathing reference NO ONE who visits this site will get. In any case Blake Draco, Urtheart and Vger did a super job and it was a very informative show. It WILL be going up as show 314/Live 114 it was that good/funny.
At this point Kevin Eva and Becky Dillon would like to thank all those people who sent them best wishes for the future and took the time to put stuff together. Dunno who those two are but hey...
WRECKS FACTOR NEWS: SEND ANY ENTRIES TO ARCHANGELUK(AT)HOTMAIL.COM AS THE SW INBOX CAN'T TAKE IT. Oh and I still need loads of entries or All Stars/All Commers will be combined at this rate. Also please make it game related - epic fails sirs!
Current Entries Received
Dan Dyer - Wonderman Roareye Black Feat. Darkspeeds - Merry Christmas, Shiro! (Segata Sanshiro) KTUOS - All Hail Kittdow (All Hail Shadow) Elise Bellatrix - Jazzing For You (Original Lyrics to His World Extras Instrumental) SMX - He Is The E.G.G.M.A.N Thor The Dragon Killer - Live & Learn Turbo - Bumping Into Big But It Doesn't Matter (It Doesn't Matter SA2) Joe4evr - Let the Speed Mend It
IF YOU CANNOT SEE YOUR NAME HERE (such as Dartanian) PLEASE SEND ME YOUR SONG AGAIN TO HOTMAIL!!! COME ON.
PS: Can people stop reacting to the Unleashed Zero Punctuation review like its a major surprise FFS? |

Hellooo! |
Hiya you lot, quick reminder as I'm going to be getting ready to go home on Sunday I'm leaving the Radio Redux slot in the capable hands of Shadow Urtheart who will bring you an informed look at the industry plus some groovy music.
Ask him nicely, he might play the Kim Possible theme. :p
I'm feeling really refreshed from my holiday and frankly my break from the fanbase as they were doing my head in somewhat. I'm doing well as is my new fiancee Echo Hawk, even if she's currently trying to get pen out of two of my shirts. Her dad is in the doghouse at the moment for leaving one in the washer.
Anyway Sonic Wrecks has been secured for another year in terms of the account and the domain name. It cost a LOT so if you do want to thumb me a few $'s or.... er... damn this yank keyboard doesn't have a pound sign. Well if you do have the odd coinage amount you can spare please feel free to Paypal donate it to me!!!

Sonic Unleashed (Xbox 360) Review |
Before I start this off, I have to say that all reviews are just opinions I know that some of you can base your own off them, but really it would be wiser to rent the game before you buy, that way if it’s not your cup of tea, you haven’t wasted money. Or get the demo when it comes out - EdSonic Unleashed is a game that has many “scores” rating from good, average and even worse than SONIC the hedgehog but like I have stated and will again because it’s important mostly these are just opinions, you are the only on who can decide what you like or dislike. Now let us begin… (Read more) |

"Come In Sonic Adventure, Your Time Is Up" & Contest Winners |
Morning!
Ze contest iz ovehhh! I've picked the winner and three runners up:
The winner of a Sonic Advent Calander + a special BONUS xmas goodie bag of Sonic treats from me is Pamela Kerr who actually wrote a little poem about festive stress. Congrats! Not on the stress obviously...
3 Runners-up who gain a Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity T-shirt:
Chaotix - Who I need an address from. OVERLORD DARKSPINE - Who wrote a small essay and I need an address from you as well. Shadow Urtheart - Who wrote about how S-ranking is like an addiction.
Congratumalations to the winners, bad luck to the other entrants.
Right the topic for Sunday's live Radio Redux from the USA is going to be "Sonic Adventure", basically the romaticism about it is misplaced so I'm going to explain why in no uncertain terms by tearing a strip off of it. Yup not even Tikal is saving it from a walloping. ("Wait not even Tikal?!!? OH NOEZ!") Controversial stuff!? Perhaps, but my patience is wearing a bit atm with this double fan-standard bollocks. You might've gathered that? Lol. |

Late Night News: Did I Say DEMO? |
Are you liking these regular news bulletins? Makes you check back more doesn't it eh?
FIRSTLY: I was told earlier today the following which I will sum up in four words - Unleashed. Demo. More Soon.
SECONDLY: Hello to my Brazilian and Portuguese fans apparently I've got a fair few!
THIRDLY: I'm kinda taking a break from posting on the bloody SSMB - this is mainly due to the fact I'm likely to strangle someone at this rate. Though on the plus side my long post about how Sonic fans need to get a bit of a grip on reality and stop demanding the f'n impossible seems to have been met with general approval and/or unhappy acceptance.
FOURTHLY: I'm leaving on a jet plane Saturday and I hope to get comic #58 tomorrow night if I at all can. I will likely have some big news Sunday night too. There are 6 frames left.
FIFTHLY: I looked into possible designs for a new SW today. Our survey says: a Dark Crystal-style Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
SIXTHLY: Regardless of the comic our correspondant Blake "I Thought It Was A Banana M'Lud" Draco has a review of Sonic Unleashed ready for you which will go live tomorrow. |

Unleashed Euro PS3 Dated & More. |
I've just confirmed on the Blognik the release date for the PS3 version of Sonic Unleashed in Europe will be DECEMBER 19TH. A random thought on the chess set which everyone is hailing as amazing. Considering you'll be playing more with the characters other than Sonic as with most games of Chess you'll make about 2 moves with the King tops and one of those will be you castling i'm surprised the fanbase isn't complaining about "making" people play with Sonic's friends. Just a thought. For those of you who dislike Stadium's Thumbs Up/Down Non-Score Out Of X Reviews fret not, through the power of freelance Journalism Mr Joscelyne has as mentioned the other day got a review up on Kikizo, he gives it a 7/10. You can read it here: http://games.kikizo.com/reviews/xbox360/sonic-unleashed-p1.asp |

TSS Offline (Updated), Sonic Yoda Permanently, Oh Yes Win A Calendar!!!! |
Competition time first of all - Win A Sonic Advent Calendar (and a SEGA goody bag) - what I want you to do is simply tell me (archangeluk@sonicwrecks.com) why you should win one and what your favourite bit of Sonic Unleashed is. You've got until this time MIDDAY UK TIME TOMORROW so I can send them off before I go off on a WELL deserved mini-holiday. 3 Runners up will receive Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity T-shirts too.
We're sad at Sonic Wrecks to hear of the passing of the Sonic Yoda, a fellow Sonic Generation 3 website. We at SW were always very fond of Sonic Yoda, both as a person and as a site which we saw as being a bastion of virtue in a somewhat mirky mire of fanboyism. I've gone on record several times as saying Yoda had the most potential out of all the "mid-range" websites to really flourish. And the content rocked too. We wish Lewis well in his new endeavours.
After my late night dose of truth on SSMB - to summarise, Sonic fans want everything and nothing and you can't have both so they should make up their minds (Discoponies <3 me apparently for that, aww) Sonic Stadium appears to have been paralised presumably by the dose of the blatently obvious given. Or possibly by orcs. Evil, evil orcs.
EDIT: Dreadknux is at work apparently, presumably doing more reviews for Kikizo and not telling me like he's supposed to *pimp slaps*. But ol'Breadducks says TSS began acting weird last night and now doesn't know what is wrong with it, he's hoping B'man will be able to fix it otherwise he'll have a look this evening. Thus as of this moment SONIC WRECKS IS YOUR NEW GLOBAL LEADER. Everyone join our forum! Its much better. It exists. |

And Now For Something Actually Fun With Sonic Today! |
Right today has been lousy which considering its now tomorrow doesn't bode well.
I've added a new item in the Depository Music section which consists, or will consist of various Miscellaneous SEGA tracks - i.e. ones that don't fit anywhere.
First up is the Mega/SEGA CD BIOS music.
Oh yes and because everyones talking about it there's going to be a SEGA chess set. I can't be bothered to buy one. |

Some News From The Frontline |
Heyo, Right I've been working my ASS off as usual (and as usual for very little thanks, grr) and hopefully I'll be able to do some updates tonight. Expect the Sonic Unleashed fan rules to go into The Vault and possibly some other things too. I've still got a metric tonne of media to upload at some point. Lee Brotherton says hello, and that he loves Chip. He should also be recording instead of playing Unleashed at 1am. Crystal Dreams has stated her intention of once again joining the Wrecks Factor. HAVE YOU? Onto Unleashed and I can't complete the damned thing, I'm stuck on the Gaia Colossus section. It's still fun as hell, I actually found I'd missed TWO daytime stages, Act 2 and Act 3 of Mazuri last night - can you believe that? Personally Sonic Unleashed is definately in my top five Sonic games ever, it might even be in third spot to be honest. (Read more) |

Sonic Unleashed – Community Day Review |
Hey guys and girls, Blake Draco here to make his debut on the site to tell you about the SEGA community day that happened Friday, now I’ll just leave out the very boring part of the journey and get right down to it. The day started off early for me as I arrived midway through the press sites turn to see and play Unleashed that’s where I first heard the jazztastic Werehog battle music. I continued to watch from my corner as a competition for a PS3 which involved trying to get the lowest time on the first level (Training Level) of the game with a non upgraded (more on that later) Sonic, the competition of course flew by and eventually was won by Sonic Yoda. Soon the time was up for the press sites as they started to dwindle out (apart from Sonic Yoda who was invited to the afternoon session as well.) After getting a chance to watch the full introduction cutscene in which Eggman delivers a great response to Sonic’s Werehog form and the introduction of Chip, I resisted temptation to play the training level seeing as the others weren’t there yet. Sorry For The Lack Of Updates... |
...but I've kind of been playing a lot of Sonic Unleashed at the moment (and Saints Row 2 to be fair).
I've been asked on a couple of occasions whether its worth buying, and naturally the answer is yes. However I'm putting a caveat in that because much as I love them Sonic fans are by default whining little perishers. Yes you are. YES you are.
And because I am of the fanbase (but not of Bajor) I know all your little tantrums; so to lay some kind of foundation I hearby layout:
THE SONIC WRECKS FAN RULES FOR SONIC UNLEASHED
- If you're going to hate the Werehog no matter what, then don''t buy it.
- If all you're going to do is to compare it with the original Sonic don't buy it.
- If all you're going to do is to compare it with Sonic 06, because the idea of a "love", regardless of the type or intent, between a one-off human character and an anthropomorph has somehow spoiled things for you so badly its all you blather on about by all means buy it but be quiet.
- If you're going to get upset if the game DARES cater for someone younger than you, or by that fans who a) weren't Sonic fans until recently or b) weren't alive when Sonic 1 was released don't buy it.
- If you're gonna get in a spin over voices buy it... and turn the voices off, or put it on mute.
If however you want to buy a new Sonic game, because - its a new "main" Sonic game - it looks superb - which it does - the music is brilliant. Which it is, the Werehog fighting music is by far and away the best thing in the known universe. - the gameplay is great or - its highly engaging and enjoyable
Then by all means buy it!
In the end the majority of people who are complaining now will be complaining about the same things (in their opinion) post-launch, I meanwhile will be playing Sonic Unleashed until I get all the medals, eat all the hotdogs, get 1000 points or die trying - and my grinning face will be forever etched on my face by rigor mortis.
Now if you'll excuse me... *GRINS DEMENTEDLY*
(YES YOU ARE!) |

No Show Today |
There will not be a show today, mainly as I'm not in the mood to do one and don't want to spend 60-80 mintues fielding questions about the damn Unleashed release date.

Sonic Wrecks Does Weird Updates All Right: Day III |
I promised Urtheart yesterday that I'd do something from Turkey today, so I hereby deliver on that promise. A turkish review of Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games! It's from the Turkish publication Oyungezer, which is good. You could probably go as far to say that it's refined, sublime, makes you feel fine(though very much maligned and misunderstood) but if you know Oyungezer is a real crowd pleaser its ever so good, is Oyungezer. Good. Link because its far too big: Here |

Curiosities Day II: Shabbat The Hanukkah? |
What you see below is a review from an Isareli newspaper - Shoken is my only clue - which reviews Shadow The Hedgehog. What they actually say I'm not sure though I admit to being somewhat interested that Israel uses PEGI? Anyway I'd imagine they say it's an excellent game and that people shouldn't whinge about obstacles in the road when the city is being destroyed around you. NB: The above is now in the images section of the Depository under Images > Shadow The Hedgehog. |

Ye Shadow Depositore Curiosity Shoppe: Sonic Rivals |
So then, I'm going to be adding some "curiosities" to the Shadow Depository over the next few days. These can be simply reffered to as the "not seen anywhere else exclusive" bracket (*insert now over-used FIRST@TSSZ joke here*). The below has been added to the Shadow Depository Images section and joins the UK/PEGI packshot for Sonic Rivals. This is the not only clean but alternate Work In Progress artwork for the rear of pack for UK/PEGI. More tomorrow - what on I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it'll be curious! |

Commentary 25/10: VGHell, TSS Is 8 & Rockin', SoS 09 |
Well I finally got home from Video Games Live at about 2:30am, after finding that London Bridge tube was closed, having to navigate all the way around London to get to Bank station where I could realisitically walk to LB train staion from only to find out they'd re-opened the tube again. Getting to London Bridge only to find there were no more trains, before getting a night bus (on which there was a fight) to somewhere nearer to home than central ruddy London before spending ANOTHER £25 on a "taxi" which got lost before I abandoned it having seen a landmark I recognised and walking through the cold night past a couple of gangs who definately "thought about it". I was SO glad to be home. Anyway The Sonic Stadium, our partner in Sonic crime turned 8 yesterday. Aww. Wrecks is but a young pup, wet behind the ears at 4 this year in comparison. Anyway Svend has put up a marvelous speech telling all of TSS's achievements in the field of achieveviness-ness MOST of which I agree on. More after the break - (Read more) |
