Sonic Legacy Project Update - 14/6/09
Urgh, don't even start on where's the comic becuse the last week has been a stressifying mess - I have an idea for the next comic and one might be a bit of an answer of a previous Emerald Coast comic. Oh yes.
However I've spent a very long time this afternoon adding a load of new comics to the Sonic Legacy Project including Universe #3+#4 and Sonic #200. But also some new Sonic X on a seperate page, six issues of Knuckles the Echidna, Super Sonic Special #5 and even Sonic #100!
Sweeeeeeet.
PS: I also fixed the description of RR#412.

My Cultdom For Some Cash!
X-Cult are sending out an SoS for donations at the moment, as due to a home move and change of credit card details there's a very good chance that if funds aren't procured by June 20th X-Cult which includes Sonic Retro could disappear...FOREVERZ.
Sonic 3 has been placed on the Xbox Live Marketplace and you can download that now for a cool 400 Microsoft points.

2 Trailers. 15 Videos. 1GB Update.
I've just finalised the update of the Videos section with the Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games section. These include 8 versions of the introductory trailer for the following countries: Australia, Holland (Benelux), France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK and USA. There's also seven versions of the E3 trailer - the same as above minus the USA one.

Curse You SEGA!
Why have you done so many variations of the Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics Trailer? Don't you know how long its gonna take me to do those? Bah...
Any way i'm working through them all... I've also remembered the SOA PR FTP so I'll be able to raid that for the US versions very soon. :)

I'm not at work today as I'm busy with Echo Hawk, so Martin's had to put up the M&S trailer. Awwww....
Anyway you can check it out below... now is it me or has Amy grown out her quills?
Canadians be pleased, hockey is in... but whats with Blaze and Amy getting so girlie girlie? And Tails clearly cheats at the ski jump- disgraceful!

"BUT SONIC IS FASTER ON FOOT!" - Yes, well done everyone. Amazing how many people can't seem to grasp the idea of a car racer title needing cars.
In any case the trailers in both normal and widescreen are up on the Depository should you wish to downlaod them and I added the it to the SW YouTube channel as well.

"Where is Summer Of Sonic Going To Be?"
London. Okay? LONDON. Saturday August 29th.
I'm re-emphasising this as I'm getting a mite tired of people saying "I've had X person contact me asking...", "Why haven't we heard anything yet?", etc like I've not been sodding doing anything.
Yes its a Bank Holiday weekend which is a pain because of hotels etc, sorry but if you want post-Cologne GamesCom inclusive goodness such as M&S Winter stuff its got to be after Cologne. Its got to be a weekend, I need to be able to go to it otherwise nothing happens and I've also got a wedding to sort out as well and I'm not screwing up my future and family for you guys. Sorry, I draw the line there. Its at the time it has to be.
No, we've not specified exactly WHERE in London its being held yet because I'm trying to get contracts finalised; SEGA legal would like a change - a change I agree with as it protects SEGA, me, the organisers and you guys who want to attend. So thats got to happen first. This of course is resulting in me as muggins in the middle and the only one able to orchestrate the damn thing getting it in the neck from all sides.
Its been thought best to wait until this is confirmed before telling you the specific location. As soon as thats done and the deposit is properly down we'll let you know.
Yes its annoying, Yes I'm pissed off its taking so long as well and yes its 2am and I can't get to sleep because I'm THAT annoyed. Tomorrow I hope to get a lot of things underway regarding SoS on my big SoS related list, I'm also going to be raising my voice a lot.
So there we go, you've got the summarised situation in as much as I can tell you. As soon as things are sorted I will pretty much IMMEDIATELY tell you and you'll also be informed by TSS and The Summer of Sonic website. I.e. the ones you'll actually take notice of.
This was really helpful to write... who knows I may even get some sleep now before I have to get up and go to work.

410 - The Visa Victorious Show
New RR up from last Sunday, the show where I celebrate Echo Hawk's visa with a 1/4 bottle of champagne and a generally hyper mood is now up for download and also available on RRPlay.
Tomorrow's show will not feature me incidentally, 411 - "The B-Show" will features Ram The Dragon and Blake Draco. I'll be working on a comic.
There's a new DLC pack for Unleashed and it contains not only an Apotos adventure pack but a Shamar adventure pack as well, you can download this huge pack (795 MB) all this for the same price (250 Microsoft Points) this pack contains five daytime stages and four nighttime stages with three brand new stages and six new missions.
In other news the original Mega Drive Sonic the Hedgehog can now be downloaded to your iPhone for just $5.99/£3.49.
That's right in the Depository you'll find the Sonic Channel Blaze wallpaper (for June 2009) as well as a new page for Sonic Unleashed/World Adventure where there are four in multiple sizes waiting to be used for your desktop.

A Manual, Just Like Mama Used To Make!
Its Tuesday! Goood ol Tuesday, gotta love me some tuesday right? Well I've nothing overly major for you today - yesterday although you didn't know it I updated the 404 page a little s those searching for the SW secret were getting a tad fed up of seeing the King Of All Weegees.
Today you get wonderment in the form of a new manual - Sonic Rush... in Italian!
I've also changed the Sonic Channel image that you find in the depository so it doesn't look so goddamn ugly anymore, altered the Unleashed one and added M&S Winter ready for blast off.
I also hear we might have a new radio show soon, a demo of which has been recorded. If good enough it could become the second Radio Redux show. We shall see.

Victory Is Mine, Er, Ours!
I'm pleased to announce that after a VERY long and far too expensive battle, the future Mrs UK (namely Echo Hawk) has been told her Visa has been approved. Naturally I'm absolutely over the moon, which was fortunate as I found at the back of it a new video update to the Depository.

Cheaty Cheaty Cheat Cheats
The forum is going to some lengths to discover the SW secret, in fact I've taken some steps to curtail their nosiness as it happens, but I added some other items to the site anyway. Such as the quotes section which now has some interesting comments and new additions which you'll see eventually.
I may even take it a step further and invoke punishments for those people on E-On, very interesting and creative punishments.
And I can be jolly creative...
In other news the complete Fleetway Sonic The Comic #006 has been added to the Depository since Urtheart thought I'd forgotten about them.

Damned Foxes...
You may recall when I did my post-SoS 2008 blog on the Blognik I mentioned about the fact I'd been stalked by foxes as I went to the train station at silly o'clock in the morning. Well I'm presently being kept awake by one. There's just been a fight somewhere out back of my house and five minutes after that one is now SCREAMING at the top of its lungs. This is natural so if its hurt its hurt in this instance sad as that may be but I really do wish it's SHUT THE HELL UP.
A small update, number one the 14th happens to be the birthday of one Ram The Dragon, so happy birthday to her. The secret was found by Blake "Abuse My Knowledge Of The Site" Draco who has been sworn to silence on threat that I'll post him this damned fox.... and I'll do it, so help my I will. I have added some clues which you'll need to keep an eye out for.
The empty image link tag, which appeared in all the cast pages (which Strata thought was the secret) have been removed. The staff page has been updated too, including NEW artwork for a certain sexay sassy shehog.
Right I'm off to blugeon something to kingdom-come with a copy of Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere". Good night.

Simply All-Statistical
Time to look at the backend of Wrecks as we do our monthly "how the heck are we doing then". Well the truth is SW continues to go from strength to strength, last time I beleive I mentioned about SW not doing so well in America but this has improved as has our Alexa rank as a whole.
When you consider that we were always pretty good in the great scheme of things our Alexa tracked traffic has in the last three month gone up 70% and our global Alexa rank has just snuck inside 400,000 globally. Not that long ago we were in the mid 800,000's remember!
SW also continues to have a very strong latin following, which we're very greatful for - as we are of all you. But I thought you'd still dig a lowdown on us compared to a few other Sonic/SEGA websites so you can see how they're doing.
Global Rank Sonic Retro - 103,839 SEGA Nerds - 135,164 Sonic Stadium - 151,797 TSSZ - 163,770 Sonic Wrecks - 397,000 Emerald Coast - 1,042,186 Sonic Cage Dome - 1,452,781
SOAH aren't included as they are on the Gamespy server which means they get THEIR rankings.
Interestingly Sonic Stadium is in the top 5,000 sites for Norway...then again Retro are 1,347 in Trinidad and Tobago. However here's a snapshop of how the "Big 3" (Stadium/Retro/Wrecks) are doing in terms of the UK/US country rankings.
So there we go, massive US improvenment and SW is hanging on to TSS and isn't that far away from being the biggest Sonic site in the UK! We're also doing pretty good in Mexico at the moment. Nice! :)
No one is close to finding the hidden secret yet either. Not even close.

Colouring Paper #50 & Sonic 06 Gets A Review
When you consider that Shadow's over 50 years old it makes sense that he's colouring paper number 50 (crikey, that many) and I have to say I don't recognise the artwork in any sense of the word. Is this new art? Anyway Shadow gets only his third colouring paper and his first one in AGES - the last one was number 12 for pete's sake.
Joining our new addition is a new review from master of ceremonies (that are reviews) Blake Draco and of course some comments from the SW Crazed Fanboy. The target? Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 on the XBox 360. Check out the reviews list for Blake's thoughts.

Spam Bots
Please note the time of this post. Yawwwwwwwn.
Right, owing to the rash of spam bots going around the place which is causing merry hell with not only E-On but SSMB and other boards around the web I've strengthened the visual protection level on E-On. Passwords will now have to contain letters AND numbers - I'm somewhat against turning admin varification on so please could all E-On members be wary of any mysterious new entities.
Additionally until such times as PHPBB give some sort of additional security measure the E-On logon from the site has been removed.

Sonic Channel Wallpapers Uploaded
The second batch of Channel wallpapers has been uploaded encompassing the years 2007-2009 and bringing them right bang up to date with the latest one revealed yesterday, a "shaded sketch" style of Knuckles. We seem to have gone full circle again, as we've already had an Black Knight Sonic and Tails as "Black Smith" so far this year.
This means Knuckles is the first character to appear simply as his himself twice in the sketch style. Mr popular eh? At least this means no Knights sketches. Although I'm assuming we have Amy next again then if the previous 2008 cycle holds true, but who knows...

Blognik & Digital Spy Team Up - Win An SBK Script
Okay so its not an SW compo but I set it up so nyah.
You may remember a while back that I teased on the Blognik the opportunity to win a hyper-rare Sonic & The Black Knight Japanese game script signed by game producer Tetsu Katano. Only two of these babies exist and I own one of them, (my precioussssssssss), and now you have the opportunity to do just that and give the second one a home.
All you need to do to be in with a shout of winning is to answer a very simple question over at Digital Spy’s competition page. The contest ends in 4 days though so you’ll have to be quick!
Edit: Its currently open to UK residents only atm but I'm seeing if we can change that. ;)

Announcing The Sonic Legacy Project
You may have thought the Merch List in the Depository was something of a vanity page, boasting what I own and blowing raspberries in the vague direction of anyone who cared. However there was method behind this madness, the list was always going to be more than just a mere "list".
It's all very well you see seeing packshots and things like that but an actual proper product - what does that look like? An actual physical product. What types of Merchandise have been and gone - how rare are they in the great scheme of things?
The Sonic Legacy Project will be a photographic record of all the Sonic Merchandise that falls into SW hands, all the comics, the books, the figures, the CDs, t-shirts, the works with some basic details as to who made it and where. There have been so many items down through the years where do you begin?
I'm slowly working through the list we had and I took a load of photos today which will be going up (I'm using the existing photos I've taken that are up on the SEGA Europe Flickr for these). Several items though have already gone online, and I can also report that SW has acquired several new items which will also be going online (eventually).
- Shadow The Hedgehog Official Beanie Hat (US) - A MYSTERIOUS PROTOTYPE - You'll have to wait until SOS 09 to find out what it is. - Sonic Universe #1 - Sonic X #34 - Sonic The Hedgehog #197 & #198 - Sonic Rush Adventure Minitec Torch - Shadow The Hedgehog (XBox - UK Promo) - Sonic Riders: ZG (PS2 Promo)
Check out the developing Merch List under the Shadow Depository.

Knuckles The Echidog?
Let's face it we're somewhat spoiled by the sheer scope of insider-knowledge as fans, think about it we've been getting all sorts about the original Sonic games and indeed even the game design process of even the most up to date games. However despite the most recent reveals it seems there's still more left in the SEGA Japan and Sonic Team archives to whet the appetite.
Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki Hime has posted a revealing interview with Takashi Thomas Yuda the designer of one Knuckles the Echidna. Yuda, whose most recent work was as Assistant Producer on Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity was asked about the genesis (no pun intended) of Knuckles. Yuda proceeded to reveal a startling piece of information - translation below.
DH: You designed the Echidna, Knuckles. Who is now one of the most recognisable of game characters. How did that come to be?
Yuda: I'm often asked about Knuckles. I'm very fond of him naturally, but my original designs were somewhat different - Naka-san and the team had noticed Sonic's popularity in America and Europe so it was decided that for Sonic 3 we would have a new character who would act like a mini-boss. A tough character who would be created to enhance this market.
Originally the character was going to be much... more reckless you could say. A “brute”. My original conception was a Bulldog, a little similar to the dog from the Tom & Jerry animations. At a conceptual level he was for a long time not called Knuckles, he was called "Dozer". We had the idea that he would be a slower character but powerful and would travel around on a bulldozer.
Ultimately the team decided that Dozer didn't fit in with the established characters - though the concept of a travelling machine we ultimate reused with Nack The Weasel's spring machine (the Magnificent Queen) which appeared in Sonic & Tails 2 for the Game Gear.
I believe, though I could perhaps be incorrect, the sprite used in game was based off an early sprite of Dozer's machine - the tracks and scoop were simply removed. It's always sad when one of your designs are not approved but that is why we go through the approval processes - to make the right design decisions and I would say Knuckles was a great design decision.
The interview lasts for most of a page and Yuda also speaks on the difficulties of transplanting Sonic onto a board for the Riders series.
Full page scans up this evening for you in the Depository.

Sorry If You've Been Having Wierdness...
...at least over the last couple of hours. I've been fiddling once again to get a damned stroke effect to go around the tagline text. No joy. Speaking of taglines though I've just added another 17 from the old SW to the rotation. Oh, and a vast array of new header images too.
And I had just enough time to add the US version soundtrack of Sonic CD back into the Depository.
And Sonic Chaos / Sonic & Tails...
And Sonic Spinball...
And also Dr.Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Sonic 3 Sonic Boom Sonic Drift Sonic Spinball (8-Bit) Sonic & Knuckles the Sonic & Knuckles Remix soundtrack Sonic Triple Trouble Sonic Drift 2 / Sonic Drift Racing Knuckles' Chaotix Sonic Labyrinth and Sonic Adventure: Songs With Attitude...
Oh and I added the Sonic Adventure Remix disc as well.
