It's somewhat hard to imagine now but there was a time when podcasting was this new and revolutionary thing, when iTunes was this little upstart program created by Apple that only a few geeky people had heard of and there was a time when the only site with real radio show content was SEGASonic Radio.

As part of the ethos of Radio Redux I wanted to create its own unique brand of radio show, essentially I wanted a podcast and part of this was because there was no other video game podcast at the time focusing on SEGA or Sonic. I also wanted to move away from the SEGASonic Radio formats and try and up maybe not the professionalism as there were limits to that but at least the quality of the show. This would result in the creation of various show segments some of which are running still today but most of which evolved through over the course of time.

What is not in doubt though is that not only was Radio Redux the first Sonic podcast in the world it was also one of the first video games related podcasts and one of the first officially classified video games podcasts PERIOD. Not bad considering they had to be uploaded on 56k for several years.

The original format of Radio Redux saw a rough one show per month format, with most early shows being two hours plus, considerably longer than anything being broadcast on SEGASonic Radio.

Episode 1 was officially "broadcast" on February 4th 2006, however it was recorded in December 2005, it was a very different kettle of fish to modern shows. I was rather nervous and didn't have a clue what to talk about, however it did feature an "Advertise!" - an advert for a Sonic or video game product, the very first episode of Chaotix X (Radio Redux's very own soap opera) and the "Rock Classic" - a weekly classic rock track segment.

Afterwards a considerably cut down 15 minute version called Episode 0: "Prelude To WTF?!" was recorded and was originally listed as being broadcast Feb 3rd 2006.

The start was different as well originally, it was not until mid way through series one that the familiar "radio tuning" opening followed by the Radio Redux theme tune - an edited instrumental version of "Y'Know" the theme tune to Bubblegum Crisis 2040 (called "Y'Know (It Rocks)") was used. For most of series one a skit preceeded the show.

The first guest shows and Room 101 shows all appeared in the initial run and in a little known fact, episode 2 actually had to be re-recorded and as issue resulted in all the audio being messed up and a special "Episode 1.5" went up to fill the gap.

Series two saw a more focused and streamlined show format, it also saw the very first Wrecks Factor and the bombshell that the mysterious final judge was in fact SEGA - AAUK went on to win the much smaller contest.

Series two was very much the year of firsts, as it also had the first show on location (#208's WrecksFest) a cross over with The Sonic Show to produce a Radio Redux vidcast (#207's Grand Theft Vidcast), the first show not involving AAUK at all though as Echo Hawk was mysterious joined by Espio to produce the show.

Season two is notable also for the the addition of "The Sonic Billboard Countdown" a show created by Demx of Sonic Style and which became an official part of the Radio Redux promoted brand.

Series three saw Radio Redux go LiVE as it split into two formats, the usual recorded shows and regular LiVEcasts on SEGASonic Radio. Quite simply the reason for the move was it was beneficial in both directions, we wanted to expand the show to make it more regular and live for more spontaneity. But also it was done so to help prop up SEGASonic Radio which was in dire need of some stability and familiar faces.

In mid 2009 all the LiVE shows were combined with the recorded shows and renumbered to form a proper combined season three. You can still tell which shows were the LiVE ones however, as the LiVE Radio Redux shows used a different theme tune, "Y'Know (It Rocks" being replaced by an edit of Saliva's "Ladies & Gentlemen".

Series four saw the show go, essentially weekly. With more shows that almost all the prior series put together. It also charted the developing life of its host, as this series not only charted Echo ArchangelUK's announcement of a victory in the visa case with Echo Hawk, but their moving in together and marriage! All of this resulted in Echo becoming Radio Redux's second DJ.

Season 4 also marked the start of an expansion of programming with the debut of the Radio Redux "B-Show" - a pilot for Blake and Ram's Dragon's Den show.
