What is Sailor Gem? Sailor Gem exists in another universe entirely, in that to the guys within the Sonic Wrecks comics it is a ficticious TV show - one that uses all the stereotypes of magical-girl anime's such as (and most noticably) Sailor Moon. This is unless of course you are in the SG universe in which case as far as they are concerned SW is the fictional one. Geddit?
Sailor Gem was originally concieved (conceptually) in 2004 as a step forward from a line up I created showing all the people I worked with in 'Weemee' form. At christmas my friend Gemma requested I do something similar for her and that was when comic number one was done in this 'Weemee' style and is unlikely to be put on SW as it was more personal, comic two materialised for Gemma's birthday in 2006 and was transmogrified into the sprite comic style you'd be more familiar with.
All the characters are based (extraordinarily loosely) on people I work(ed) with, though the character traits are hyper-exaggerated. For example, Sailor Gem is guilty on many occasions of being "severely 'blond'" far beyond anything the real Gem could be. The real Meg likes to drink and was never one to pick a fight with, hence Sailor Meg is an alcohol obsessed girl wth a short fuse.
A difference to SW, most of the sprites are MAJOR edits by AAUK and as the look of SG is a Megaman-style sprite comic that has continued to date. With SG#02 came a whole raft of characters and the setup of the main plot, which can be laid out for you know - more details can be found on the staff page:
Sailor Gem is your atypical magical girl, recruited by the mysterious 'Tuxedo Paul' and his top hat wearing canine sidekick 'Tuxedo Barclay' to lead a group of superheroines. Blinded by an un-reciprocated love for Tuxedo Paul she agrees and brings in Sailor Meg and Sailor Mel to form the core of the team doing good deeds and saving the day when called upon by the skirt chasing Mayor Thingummy (the only character to date not based on anyone). With powers connected to the celestial bodies 'Team SG' thought themeselves unstoppable until the nefarious Mark-Oni materialised on the scene.
Mark-Oni, a self-described 'all-powerful entity' seeks the legendary 'Book of Damocles' who's power will cement his position as the most powerful being in existance. Armed with a gren clad army of your usual henchmen/grunts, he penetrated SGHQ after the book was recovered by Tuxedo Paul. Defeated in a titanic battle, Mark-Oni retreated but did a great deal of damage to their headquarters (though nowhere near the amount Sailor Gem did).
Then there is the put upon 'Sailor-In-Training' Leonie, general dogsbody of the team but who is secretly improving her powers - but is there more to her than meets the eye?
